Welcome to Music with Mummy
Our music education programme which established in 1992 will take your child on a musical journey from a baby through to school age, with our carefully structured classes. Class sizes are kept small so I can get to know you and your child and watch them grow in confidence each week.
Missed Classes
Unfortunately missed classes are non-refundable. If you are unable attend a class due to illness or another event, I will always do my best to find you another class to make up for the missed session. Please contact me to arrange this.
Cancelled Classes
If in the very unusual circumstances I must cancel a class, I will contact you by email and the Facebook page firstly and mobile if I don’t hear from you. Please make sure I have an up to date email address/mobile number. You will be offered an alternative class/online class or refund depending on the situation.
Hygiene
Resources will be cleaned before each use and there will be hand gel available at every session. Please help yourself if you would like to use them.
Payments
Classes are payable in advance each half term. You will a booking reminder via email. Please make payments by the week before your first class. You can pay online or by either cash, or Bank transfer directly to Lisa.
Bank Transfer Account Number: 60659160 Sort code: 30-67-47
Please write your child’s full name as a reference so I can identify your payment.
Renewal of your place
Two weeks before the end of term you will receive a booking reminder. This will be sent by email to the email address provided. Please make sure I have up to date contact details for you. Please check your SPAM/JUNK box for this letter as it gets sent to lots of people.
Please then bring payment with you the following week, i.e. the last week of term. If you are paying by Bank Transfer, then please make this payment by the specified date in the email.
If you don’t want to renew your place
If you don’t want a place for the next term, please tell me in advance (preferably before next term’s payment is due) by emailing or leaving me a phone message.
Class Etiquette (To create a gentle, calm, and safe learning environment for your child)
· Mobile phones should be turned to silent. If you are expecting an urgent call, then please let me know. When the phone goes off, please pop outside the room to answer it.
· I love the friendly nature of my classes, so please keep chatting to the beginning and end of classes – not during the class as it disrupts the lesson.
· If your child is having a bit of a meltdown and making more noise than me, please pop out of the room with them until they have calmed down and then come back in.
· Please don’t stress if your child decides to wander away from the circle. Quietly encouraging them to come back would be helpful but if not appropriate then I would be inclined to ignore them as they will soon realise that they are missing out. You can then try re-engaging them when we move on to the next song. I am always happy to offer any advice. In my experience, some children do take a while to settle into the routine of the classes. So, lots of gentle encouragement and your undivided attention always work well.
· Please avoid giving your child food snacks during class. This is a source of distraction. Breastfeeding/bottle feeding or a quick drink is not a problem.
Parties
I run several Parties throughout the year, an Easter Party in April, a Pumpkin Party in October, and a Christmas Party in December. These parties are optional and details of these will be given out in class at the appropriate time. I also run themed classes such as Roly Poly, Colours, Teddy Bear’s Picnic etc over the summer holidays which again are optional. If you’d like to book on these in advance, please see my Facebook page for details.
I am also able to attend a Child’s Birthday Party, should you wish. Themed parties can be catered for with all props provided. If you would like more details, please ask and I’ll be happy to send you some information.
Props
In the classes I use a variety of props, such as finger puppet, scarves, and egg shakers. I do buy extra as some parents like to purchase them to sing the songs at home. They will be available to purchase at classes during the first week of each month.
Get the most out of your class
The educational benefits of music are numerous. The patterns and rhythms will help with their maths and with language development. Taking part in music in a small group such as ours will also have the benefit of teaching social skills such as sharing and turn-taking. I will always encourage good manners and like to think when they leave my classes to go to primary school that they are well prepared. To help them you could: -
· Sing and interact with them in class.
· Sing the songs with them at home (if you can’t remember the words to start with then make them up!)
· Have a box of instruments at home to have your own music sessions.
· Add “listening music” into your bedtime routine.
· Talk to your child before class about what we might be going to do.
· Talk to your child after class about what we did do.
· Copy the activities we do in class at home.
If you are worried about anything at all, then please contact me by phone or email. I will get back to you as quickly as I can.
Thank you for reading this and I look forward to singing with you and your little one.
